There are lots of features in today’s Smartphone, when an ideal person makes his way towards buying a new mobile phone. He gets confused to which one suits good for him or which is the best phone in respect to technical ground. A non Technical individual would get confused to know and understand the features and technical aspects of the phone. So to make it easy we will give you a brief explanation about the Mobile Processors to get the overall idea about them.
However, Overall performance of your Smartphone Processor depends on lots of factors such as which type of Architecture it is using, the size of transistors, number of cores processor has, the clock speed of the processor and the RAM size, etc.
It means only having more core will multiply the work performance is not possible. We can’t say that Octa-Core processors performance is twice better than Quad-Core Processor. There is no such kind of comparison if the Architecture, Processor Technology and other factors are different.
What is Processor?
We can call PROCESSOR as a BRAIN of your SMARTPHONE which is becoming smarter every day. A mobile processor provides a self-contained operating environment that delivers all system capabilities needed to support a device’s applications, including memory management, graphics processing and multimedia decoding.
ARCHITECTURE is a technical design of a Mobile processor. Most of the companies such as QUALCOMM, MEDIATECH, SAMSUNG, NVIDIA, iPhone, etc. which are major stack holders in manufacturing the mobile processors buy PROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE from other company depending upon their needs of their processor.
Most widely used processor architecture is produced by ARM (Advance RISC Machine). You might have come across term CORTEX. Cortex is the latest series of MOBILE PROCESSORS Architecture from ARM that provides efficient work of the mobile Processors.
Efficiency of the PROCESSOR depends upon the type of technology used in the processor. Processors consist of MILLIONS of tiny TRANSISTORS. The performance of the processor depends upon the size on these transistors, the smaller the size of transistors the better is the performance of processor. The size of these TRANSISTORS is majored in nanometers.
Samsung processors have the smallest transistor size about 14 nanometers. So, the smaller the size the better performance and more power efficient. That means prolonged battery life.
Although, QUALCOMM is trying to develop the Processor technology which will be consisted of Transistors of as small as 10 nanometers size.
Core means simply an SUB processing unit attached to the MAIN PROCESSOR. Single core processor means it has only a one core, same way Dual Core has TWO CORE and Quad Core has FOUR COREs, etc.
In a Multi core processor performance can be increased, as each CORE will perform different work individually. That means the higher no of cores is a better choice. More the number of cores more efficient will be the performance. As work will get distributed among the CORES which will reduce work burden on PROCESSOR and will get less heated.
Frequency or Clock Speed is processors speed to execute instruction per clock pulse. It is typically measured in Megahertz or Gigahertz. One megahertz is equal to one million cycles per second and one gigahertz equals one billion cycles per second.
If you double the speed of the clock, leaving all other hardware unchanged, you will not necessarily double the processing speed.Clock speed is one measure of computer “strength,” but it is not always directly proportional to the performance level.
However, the performance of the two processor cannot be compared ideally depending upon their number of cores or on the clock speed, unless the ARCHITECTURE, TECHNOLOGY have same parameters.
But, ideally we can say the more the no. of cores and high frequency with better architecture can be the preferred Mobile Processors for you
